A laid back engagement session trek around Greenwich Village & West Village in New York City, New York

Miles + Lea embody what I love so much about my couples. There is nothing they need more than one another. I love that they brought this simple, laid back style to their session because whether or not they realized it then, it allowed their interaction, their reactions, to really be the center highlight.

As true to their laid back style their engagement session was exactly the same. We had no real plan in mind, I knew of some spots I had thought of but if we didn’t get led to them it wouldn’t be a problem. The way we went about the day was, I feel, a true testament to how their actual relationship was and I was so excited to be a part of that.

One of the first questions Lea asked me was whether or not I would travel to NYC for their engagement session. Of course was my answer was…duh! If there’s anything y’all should know about me by now is that I love to travel and love to have any excuse to go anywhere. And as a side bonus: Erik came too!

We started off in Washington Square Park but made our way to the back end of the park. We found a little part of the park that wasn’t overcrowded with too many people and gave us the room to jump right into taking photos. Miles and Lea didn’t want anything too touristy, which I thought was super respectable because they are anything but tourists to the city and know all the nooks and crannies of the Greenwich and West Village areas.

I loved, so much, getting the opportunity to photograph them but I equally as much loved just getting to know them. The in-between moments when we were just walking around the city were some of my most favorite. We walked and talked about our mutual loves of Game of Thrones, various TV shows, Lea and I bonded over how both Erik and Miles run out into the middle of the street while leaving us stranded on the opposite side, and we just talked as friends getting to know one another.

During our trek around the Villages we kept trying to find a place that we could slide into and get some photos at the bar. Miles and Lea have a great knowledge of bars in the Greenwich and West Village areas but we kept finding that either every bar was full by 3 p.m. or that one of their favorite bars didn’t open until later in the evening. So we accepted that a few photos on a bench outside one of their favorite places to visit would have to do.

When walking around the city, I didn’t want to focus on the bigger picture when you step back from the frame because I didn’t want to try and make it look like I was putting them in NYC, especially because Miles and Lea didn’t want to be like tourists so I kept my focus on the two of them, the laughter, the connection, and the normal every day of how the two of them are together.
